On Friday January 3 Margaret Victoria Stipcich Hoffman passed away peacefully in her recliner while catching a “before Bingo” nap.
Margaret was born December 10, 1927 to Victor and Katie Stipcich in Helena. She attended East Helena public school and graduated from Helena High in 1947. After high school she worked for Mountain Bell, later for Sundries Shops and eventually retiring from Associated Foods after 21 years.
In February 1949 Margaret married Stanley O. Hoffman. Together they had two children, daughter Kathy, and son Don (Butch). As a family they enjoyed many weekends camping and fishing with friends and relatives. Stanley passed away in 1979. After his passing Margaret continued camping and fishing with her companion Dick Doggett. She eventually traded camping gear and fishing poles for many colored Bingo daubers. Margaret was a lifelong member of the East Helena VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
As most of her family and friends will affirm she was fiercely independent, stubborn at times and opinionated, but most of all she was a true Bohunk, East Helenan and proud to be an American.
Margaret is survived by her daughter Kathy (Steve) Schenk; son Don (Butch) Hoffman; grandchildren Michelle (David) Wolstein; Robin (Shawn) Graham and Brett Hoffman all of Helena, and Melissa (Luis) Nerey of Reno, NV, 8 great grandchildren, brothers John and Joe Stipcich of East Helena, and sister Rose Rice of Helena.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents Victor and Katie Stipcich, sisters Kate, Mary and Ann, her husband Stanley, companion Dick Doggett, grand-daughter Katy and daughter-in-law Geri.
A Funeral Service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 10, 2014 at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home with a burial to follow the funeral at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. A Reception will be held at the VFW Post 10010 East Helena after the burial. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials in Margaret’s name be sent to the VFW Post 10010, 117 W.
