Patrick (Pat) James Walchuk, of Helena, Montana, was called home to his heavenly father last month at the age of 68.
Born on April 23, 1956, in Anacortes, Washington to Mae and Leo Walchuk, Patrick grew up in Helena before moving to western Washington where he worked in the tire industry for 30 years. He raised his three children in Lacey, Washington with then wife Tammy before moving back to Helena.
When they were little, he loved cooking for his kids, cheering for them from the stands at baseball tournaments, and taking them on camping trips. He particularly loved camping trips to Flathead Lake – his favorite place. He loved music, especially when played on his cherished record player. He was a Washington Husky football season ticket holder for many years and enjoyed nothing more than spending Saturdays rooting for his team with his closest friends (and eventually Husky daughter). He was a very proud grandpa, and his three grandkids were the light of his life. He was a man of strong faith, finding solace and guidance in his Catholic beliefs.
Patrick is survived by his daughter Kylie (Casey), sons Shaun (Kelsi) and Riley (Sydni), grandchildren Payton (whom he always called Dolly), Callen, and Parker, and his siblings Don (Molly), Mike (Terri), Ed, and Reneé (Barry).
Funeral plans will be announced at a later date.

Pat grew up across the street from our family, and I will always have fond memories of our days playing army, wiffle ball, and hide-and-seek. Those were wonderful days of innocence. He is now at peace with his mom and dad and all those who went before him. I will reflect on our earlier days with a smile.

Pat and I were teammates on the Helena High basketball team. I always loved his sense of humor and good natured personality. When we graduated from high school myself and 2 friends drove to Washington to visit him. He surprised us with an opportunity to go deep sea fishing. Pat helped me find a way to cope with the turbulence from the sea. He also had tickets to a pre season Seattle Seahawks football game. I have nothing but fond memories of my time with Pat.

I graduated with Pat in 74 from Helena High. Pat and I worked together for a time in the early 70’s at the A&W root beer stand in Helena. He was a fun and great working partner while we flipped burgers and the like. We both liked to sometimes have cigars back then. Thanks for the good memories Pat, RIP. My condolences to his family.

Pat was a student – athlete at Helena High School graduating in 1974. My time with Pat was as a talented basketball player who together with 11 other equally talented players achieved a “Cinderella” 2nd. place finish in the 74 state basketball tournament. I recall Pat as an extremely good looking young man and a great catch for some lucky girl. With such great potential, Pat fell hard into a world that was not compatible with what could have been. Pat’s life and tribulations has been a lesson that we must relate to our children an grandchildren. Pat, you will be missed.

Pat was such a mild mannered and unassuming man. Shy and soft spoken. I visited him some years back when he was hospitalized, I only wished I could’ve done more for him. Rest in peace dear Pat. 😥

Sorry to hear of Pat’s passing. We spent a lot of time playing in the old neighborhood when we were young boys. Lots of basketball, football, wiffle ball tounaments. We haven’t been in touch for many years but I still remember those days well. My condolences to the Walchuk family.
