Philip H Beagles
On October 25, 2013 Philip Beagles 86, a lifelong resident of Montana passed away at Aspen Gardens in Helena. Phil was born on March 30, 1927 in Great Falls to Harry and Leila Beagles. He graduated from Great Falls High School in 1945 and upon graduation started his service with the US Navy. He was honorably discharged at Bremerton Naval Station. Following his military service Phil attended the Montana State College (MSU) graduating with an Electrical Engineering degree in 1950. Following graduation he started his employment with the Montana Power Company in Great Falls and later transferred to Butte. One of his projects at Montana Power was working on the design of the Colstrip power plant. He worked for MT Power until his retirement in 1988. Phil also participated in and served as Chairman of the Northwest Power Planning Council which was instrumental in developing the Northwest power grid.
In March of 1957, Phil married Janet McDonnell in Great Falls and they moved to Butte to make their home where they lived for 50 years until moving to Helena to be closer to their children. Phil and Janet were blessed with 5 children.
Phil was involved with many organizations during his lifetime. As a youth he was active in the Boy Scouts and as an adult he was a member of the Lion’s club and served as president; Civil Air Patrol as commander and many other positions for 30 years; and Search and Rescue. In Butte, Phil was active in the Aldersgate Methodist Church. He was also active in clubs for the many hobbies he enjoyed.
Phil is survived by his wife Janet of 56 years; Children/Grandchildren – Grant (Ellen) Beagles of Lewisville, TX and children Kathleen, Grant (Jessica) and Philip; Marie (Paul)Stark of Helena and children Marty (Jen) and Nick (Tiffany)Burckhard; Stuart (Karla) Beagles of Helena and children Ian and Amy; LeeAnn (Jack) Berry of Helena and children Megan and Jamie; David (Jeanette) Beagles of Great Falls and children Alicia, Andrew and Addison and 5 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Covenant United Methodist Church, 2330 E Broadway in Helena on Wednesday, October 30 at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow in the social center of the church. Burial with military honors will be approximately 1:00 p.m. at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery at Fort Harrison, Montana.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Rocky Mountain Hospice or the charity of donor’s choice. Please see below to share a memory of Phil or to offer a condolence to the family
