Those are the facts of Randy’s life. How do more words describe the substance of the man? They cannot. Randy collected friends and experiences everywhere he went. He put no value on things, except his books. He enjoyed having breakfast with friends or sitting in solitude on top of a mountain, appreciating God’s creations equally. Randy always had a sparkle in his eye, peace in his heart, and a pureness of his soul. He was complicated, yet easy and simple. He will be missed.
Randy’s family would like to express their gratitude to Bert and Pam Obert for being Randy’s friends. Their help and support during his recent illness and end of this life will not be forgotten.
A memorial and celebration of Randy’s life will be September 9, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., at his home in Clancy, Montana.

I did not know Randy but he reminded me of “Marty” on the “Mountain Men” TV show. They both have similar appreciation of life and wilderness.
Josh Thornton says
Randy was and will always be my Uncle.
And he will always be the mischievous young man who handed me his most treasured books, all sixty or so, and told me that worlds beyond counting waited there for me.
He was right.
And Randy was right in his bearing, his thoughts and actions! Right in his love and respect for all critters, great and small, though he never measured.
I shall miss this wonderful man something sore. His absence in this life is a heavier weight than any of those treasured books prepared me for.
Now it’s just a world minus his giving smile.
A poorer world for the loss.
