Regina “Jinx” Sampson’s soul was freed on September 2, 2017 at Big Sky Care Center. She was 87 years old. Waiting on her to be welcomed home was her husband of 64 years, Clifford; her parents, Ed and Radie Bahls; 2 brothers, Bernie and Lilburn Bahls; and 2 sisters, Ardus Zimdars and Ellie Jenkins.
Jinx was born in Richey, Montana and moved to Helena after graduating high school where she met and married Clifford. She retired from Mountain Bell a/k/a U. S. West after 30 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir for many years. After her retirement, she became involved with the church ladies group fondly named the “willing workers”. They would get together once a week to work on projects and items to be sold at the annual Church Bazaar, the proceeds from which would fund church missions. This was a perfect place for her to help out since she loved to crochet, do embroidery and work cross stitch.
Jinx was also an avid reader. Whenever she finished a book, she would put her initials inside the front cover. When we would go get a new supply of books for her from Aunt Bonnie’s, it became like a treasure hunt because we had to check each book for her initials before we could put them in the sack…and there were certainly many with those initials! She could also work the most complicated jigsaw puzzles faster than anyone else could get theirs out of the box.
Left behind until we join her are her: children, Steve(Jackie) Sampson of Helena, Montana, Valerie Coke of Lubbock, Texas, Jim (Susan) Sampson of Phoenix, Arizona and Jan (Bill) Orsello of Helena, Montana; sisters, Neva Sorenson of Solano Beach, California and Erda (Stan) Waters of Richey, Montana. Jinx is also survived by her 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren: Troy (Jennifer) Sampson and their 2 sons, Alex and Benjamin, of Helena, Montana; Trent (Cindy) Sampson and their daughter, Cassie and son, Cooper, of Laurel, Montana, David Sampson of Phoenix, Arizona, Ashley (Kirk) McGilvray of Fort Collins, Colorado and Sam Orsello of Bishop, California.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Jinx’s name to the National Parkinson’s Foundation. Donations may be made on line or by calling 800-473-4636. Please visit www.aswfuneralhome.com to offer a condolence to the family or to share a memory of Regina.

What a frenzy of great memories were made ( for me) when the Sampson vehicle would arrive at our Grandparents’ little farm in Eastern Montana, down through the years! I will hold dear, those days! The love and laughter wrought in days of togetherness, with the joy of my family members
sharing meals, games, stories, forming bonds that would last a lifetime. A small taste of those “good ole’ days with my Aunt Jinx and family draw me, and off I go! I will miss you, sweet, classy, dear Aunt Jinxie!
My love and hugs to Steve and Jacque, Valerie, Jim and Sue, Jan and Bill and their families. May God give you all Hope and Peace at this time in your lives!
