Robert D. “Bob” Nelson passed away April 29, 2011 at St. Peter’s Hospital following an extended illness. He was born in Helena on September 2, 1936 to Delbert and Ann Mougeot Nelson.
Bob graduated from Helena High School in 1954 and married Patti Kneedler later that year. Together they had five children. They divorced in 1963 and Bob married Judy Lingenfelter in 1965. She preceded him in death in 2009.
Bob was a member of the National Guard in the late fifties and early sixties and worked in the insurance industry as an underwriter and commercial and personal lines manager until his retirement. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and spent countless weekends camping in the mountains around Helena.
Known for his extremely quick wit and sense of humor, Bob will be missed by his surviving children, Patti Ann (Steve Hopkins) Nelson of Santa Maria, CA, Kathy (Mike) Leach of Gilbert, AZ, Sam (Arlene) Nelson of Glendale, AZ, Ginny (Keith) George of Helena, and Betsy Nelson of Helena; grandchildren, Dan Leach, Jan Miller, Ryan and Bonny March, Josh Connors, Robert and Jenny Nelson, Tucker George and Kelsey Langemo; great-grandchildren, Luke and Wyatt Miller, Oscar Ping, Reid George, and Hayden, Haylee and Harlow Langemo; sisters, Kitty Spivey, Connie Harper and Bonnie Furse all of Grand Prairie, TX; brother, Charles “Punky” Blixt of Helena; and brothers-in-law, John Lingenfelter of Three Forks and Russ Lingenfelter of Rapid City, SD. Also surviving Bob is his beloved German Shepherd, “Heidi.”
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Judy, his parents, and his brothers, Jerry and Ted.

Hi guys…I was truly sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. We go a long way back and just lost touch over the years. He was a true friend to those who knew him. My hope is that he did not suffer long. I would love to sit down with you all and talk if your time permits.
