Vern was a generous and robust Irishman who was a loving husband and doting dad who left this world to be with the Lord. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved the ocean and the wilderness alike. He loved everything in nature and called every challenge ‘just another adventure’.
He stood in the gap for the widows, the homeless, the grief stricken, the injured, the orphaned, and the underdog alike. Over his lifetime he’d say he was a “high lead” logger, commercial fisherman, equipment operator, supervisor, emergency trauma tech, and Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighter and Instructor.
He leaves behind his wife, Lori; sons, Joel and Isaac; daughter, Emily; and their half siblings, Shawn and Dawn; brother, Pat; nephew, Ryan; (and his mother) Darla; Aunt Betty; cousin, Al; several grandchildren and young Mark, other family members as well as his lifelong friends, Joe and Jack.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Rory and Zachary. He will be dearly missed.
Gifts will be accepted at the family home or can be mailed to PO BOX 1581 E Helena MT 59635.
The family will be holding a potluck memorial for friends and loved ones at the Ably home, all day on Saturday Sept. 24th beginning at 10AM. For more details call: 360.301.6007.

Vern grew up next door to us at John’s River Rd. We played together as children. Vern introduced me to his cousin Phil Bronson and we were married in 1967. We had some good times, and Vern will always be fondly remembered. I’m sorry I didn’t have your address in Montana so I lost touch with him I was sorry to hear he was ill. His brother didn’t have his address when I saw him in February. My deepest sympathy to you Lori and the entire family. Vern will be missed by everyone that knew him.

I too grew up on Johns River and was part of the gang of kids that grew up with Vernon. I remember him well. Very sad to hear of his passing and I send sympathy to his family.
Mrs. Lori Ably says
Arline, He spoke of you often and your antics as kids.
Arline Heath says
Lori, I thought of him often but had no idea how to reach him. I can’t believe he’s gone. Wish I could have seen him again. I guess we should take comfort in the fact that his pain is over, but it’s hard. Sorry I never got to meet you and the kids. He’ll always be in my memories.
Mrs. Lori Ably says
Arline, We will have a memorial over on the coast sometime in the spring, for family and friends there, who could not be here. I would really love to meet you. He would do well, then have a period of feeling poorly and then rally back. We thought this was one of those times, too. He is and will always be my one great love. No one can ever compare. He is the man he was for ll the people that ever shared any part of his life with him. So please know that, never forget that you contributed to his truly wonderful nature.
Arline Heath says
Oh that sounds good. That’s kind of you to include us. You should have my E mail address, let me know when you decide to have the memorial here. I look forward to meeting you then. Love to you and the family. Arline.
