It is with great sadness we announce the passing of William Darrell Berrigan, 89 of Helena, Montana on December 15, 2018. We are comforted knowing he will be awaiting us in Heaven.
“BB” as his beloved son called him, was born on November 6, 1929, to Darrel Berrigan and Mabel Eloise Selzer in South Gate, California. He had two brothers, Joel and Gene Selzer. He mostly grew up in Inglewood California where he enjoyed spending days at the beach body surfing and lifting weights at the famous Muscle Beach in Santa Monica. He was very athletic and became a very good gymnast.
In 1946, he met Joan Thomas and soon after they were married and had two sons, Steven and William “Bill” Berrigan. They later divorced. He was remarried and his daughter Lisa Berrigan was born in 1962. That marriage ended but he met Tina Herrin in 1989 and married in 2001 where they lived on the lake until his death.
BB became a car salesman at an early age and continued to do so most of his life. He simply loved it and was an honest salesman almost to a fault.
BB was a kind, gentle soul and loved visiting, taking bets, and strategizing on the next Golf tournament, Baseball or Football game with his son, Bill. He would light up when his son came by to visit or meet him for lunch. He had many special people in his life including his brother-in-law, Mike Herrin and nephew Mark Herrin who was always there to come to the rescue when something needed fixed. BB had a special kinship with Tina’s mother, Eleanor Herrin. They spent many hours doing crosswords puzzles and working in the yard. BB had a beloved cat “Toots” that out of the many Tina had, she was the only one allowed in his room.
BB is survived by: his wife, Tina Herrin; brother, Joel Selzer; children, Bill (Catherine) Berrigan and Lisa Berrigan; granddaughters, Shawnna Berrigan and Erin (Alan) Stroop; great grandchildren: Ashley (Jake) Martin, Kristina Reese, Casey Buckley, Andrew, Jessica and Marissa Stroop; great-great grandson, Maverik Harris. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gene Selzer; son, Steven Berrigan and grandson Jason Berrigan.
BB will be deeply missed and never forgotten. His family cherishes every moment spent with their husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather and friend.
A memorial service celebrating Bill’s life will be at 1:30 p.m., January 4th at Retz Funeral Home, 315 E. 6th Avenue. A reception will follow the service at the funeral home. Please visit below to offer the family a condolence or to share a memory of Bill.

Bill, I am very sorry to hear about the passing of your father. I’ll always remember playing golf with you and him at the country club when he sunk that putt and you reached in your pocket and just threw all your money on the green and walked off. I condolences to you and your family. Dave
